Children project
The objective of this project, unique in Europe, is the organization of a national palliative care network capable of meeting the needs of children and their families affected by life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses.
Its intent is to offer these children the best quality of life possible; to be cared for at home, free from pain and distressing symptoms.
This project envisages the broadening of homecare services, the opening of specialized children’s hospices/reference centres, the development of research programs and the organization of specific skills training for care teams.
To this end, the Foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Italian Ministry of Health and consequently a number of regional health authorities are developing a network of paediatric palliative care based on the “Children Project” model. In these regions, the Foundation provides support for the drafting of implementation projects, raised awareness initiatives and staff training.
